Coves dels Hams

The Dels Hams Caves are 10 million years old, but man has only enjoyed their beauty since they were discovered by the speleologist Don Pedro Caldentey Santandreu (1886-1950) in 1905 when he was excavating in search of onyx, a precious rock that is abundant in the area. Thanks to his concern and persistence, we can now visit them.In 1910 he brought electric light to the cave to illuminate it before there was light in the village of Porto Cristo. From a mill with a waterfall, a dynamo and a cistern he generated 16 hours of electricity to visit the cave.

Las Cuevas Dels Hams tienen 10 millones de años, pero el hombre sólo ha disfrutado de su belleza desde que fueron descubiertas por el espeleólogo Don Pedro Caldentey Santandreu (1886-1950) en 1905 cuando realizaba excavaciones en busca de ónix, una preciosa roca abundante en la zona. Gracias a su inquietud y persistencia ahora podemos visitarlas.En 1910 llevó la luz eléctrica a la Cueva para iluminarla antes de que hubiese luz en el pueblo de Porto Cristo. A partir de un molino con un salto de agua, una dinamo y un aljibe generaba 16 horas de corriente eléctrica para visitar la cueva.
