The capital's main historical museum is dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the Ljubljana region from prehistoric times to the present day. The museum houses over 200,000 artefacts, including, at 5,200 years old, the oldest wooden wheel and axle in the world. The entire first floor of the museum is dedicated temporary exhibitions, while the second contains the striking permanent exhibition, Faces of Ljubljana, which presents the Slovenian capital as a commercial, political, administrative and creative centre by theme and period.
