EYCA cardholders are eligible for a reduced admission rate. Veigert House (Karlovo náměstí 8) This large burgher house on the main square in Kolín was founded in the second half of the 13th century. Between 1494 and 1499, its owner was Jakub Krčín Sr. of Jelčany, the grandfather of the famous fishmonger Jakub Krčín of Jelčany. In the first third of the 18th century, the house was owned by Pavel Samuelis, a town official and later administrator of the Radovesnice estate. A significant Baroque reconstruction was carried out at this time. Between 1757 and 1858 the house was owned by members of the wealthy Veigert family. It was rebuilt in 1863 at the expense of the merchant Josef Turnau to its present late classical appearance. In 2016, an extensive reconstruction and extension of the house was completed. History of the Veigert House An exhibition located in the Gothic cellars introduces the historical and structural development of the house from the 13th to the 21st century. On display are numerous archaeological finds discovered during research in 2014-2015. One of the dominant features of the exhibition is a model that shows the appearance of the house at the beginning of the 19th century. History of Kolín From the Middle Ages to the mid-19th century The first part of the permanent historical exhibition presents the history of the royal city of Kolín from its foundation in the mid-13th century to the mid-19th century. On display is a large collection of monuments from the museum's collections that are directly related to Kolín's history. Among them we can mention, for example, the recently discovered Gothic statue of the Madonna from the Church of All Saints, fragments of the Renaissance epitaph altar of Simon Šilhánek from Choustník, the Renaissance corpus of the crucified Christ from the chapel of the Kolín castle, a set of Baroque paintings and statues from local churches, parts of the furnishings of burgher households, remarkable objects commemorating the local sharpshooter corps and a large part of the extensive collection of Kolín guild monuments from the 17th century. - 19th century. The exposition is complemented by facsimiles of archival documents, of which the document of the Czech King Přemysl Otakar II from 1261 with the oldest surviving mention of the town is particularly noteworthy. The exhibited historical objects are accompanied by reconstruction models of the most important monuments and a large model of the city in its early 18th century form, which is complemented by multimedia projections presenting six main thematic areas of the history of medieval and early modern Kolín. Battle of Kolín On 18 June 1757, the Battle of Kolín was fought, in which the Imperial-Royal Army and its Saxon allies defeated the army of King Frederick II of Prussia for the first time, and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Bohemia was maintained. Maria Theresa, in a letter to the victor at Kolín, Field Marshal Leopold Daun, summed up its significance in no uncertain terms: "The monarchy is indebted to you for its salvation, as I am for my existence..." The exhibition presents a representative collection of cold and firearms from the Silesian Wars, which is complemented by a replica of a single-pounder cannon. The battle scene is incorporated into the altarpiece Apotheosis of St. Wenceslas by Václav Prokop Kramolín. There is also a shooting shield by Quido Mánes with a romantic image of the awarding of the Military Order of Maria Theresa to Field Marshal Daun. The final attack of the imperial cavalry is depicted in a painting by Karel Tůma and a large study by Ludvík Vacátek. A schematic model with a period landscape depicts the decisive moment of the battle - the first phase of the breaking of the Prussian infantry attack by a massive counterattack of the Imperial cavalry. An interactive display of the model provides data on the units depicted. Additional information, illustrations and photographs are provided by the touch screen and the battle presentation.
