The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava is a contributory organization of the Moravian-Silesian Region, it is the largest collection gallery in the region. The collections of the GVUO are constantly expanding and their quality places the institution among the five most important collection-building institutions in the Czech Republic. The GVUO's exhibition spaces are located in the House of Art, a listed building from 1926, which is one of the jewels of Ostrava's architecture. It offers an exceptional setting for the presentation of fine art, both the rich gallery collections and temporary exhibitions dedicated mainly to art from the 19th century to the present. Since the 1960s, the GVUO has focused on extensive acquisition activities and has continually expanded its fine art collections. At the moment, they already include over 23,000 art objects. GVUO organizes exhibitions, educational and accompanying programs for the general public. The gallery regularly lends artworks from its collection to exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad. Since 2008, the GVUO's administrative and documentation centre has been located at 1291/12 Poděbradova Street, where you will also find an extensive library with a research room.
