Museum of Opolian Silesia

Reduced ticket, Thursday free entry

The Museum of Opolian Silesia is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the region, founded in 1900. It is housed in the historic Baroque former Jesuit college and several adjacent buildings, including a 19th‑century townhouse and the “Provincial Inn,” which serves as the Jan Cybis Gallery. The museum’s collections cover archaeology, ethnography, history and fine arts, offering a comprehensive look at the heritage of Opole Silesia from prehistoric times to the present. Highlights include the permanent exhibition “Prehistory of the Opole Region,” displaying artefacts from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages; “Opole – Settlement, City, Regional Capital,” which traces the city’s development; and the Gallery of 19th‑ and 20th‑century Polish Painting, featuring works by Chełmoński, Boznańska, Malczewski, Wyczółkowski and others. The museum also houses an exceptional collection of Tułowice porcelain and a reconstructed Jesuit apothecary. Another notable branch is the restored tenement house presenting furnished apartments from 1890–1965, offering a vivid insight into everyday life in Opole.
