The Museum of Coal Mining Industry in Zabrze is one of Poland’s most important industrial heritage sites, offering a unique opportunity to explore the history of coal extraction in authentic underground spaces. The complex consists of two main attractions: the Queen Louise Adit and the Guido Mine, which together present the rich mining traditions and technological advancements that shaped Upper Silesia. The Queen Louise Adit is an impressive system of historical underground workings and surface structures, considered a masterpiece of 19th‑century engineering. It features educational routes, reconstructions of mining infrastructure, and Europe’s longest underground boat ride. Visitors can discover the story of “black gold,” see historic machinery in action, and experience what daily work looked like for miners more than two centuries ago. The Guido Mine offers an extraordinary descent to a depth of 320 meters, making it the deepest tourist route in Europe. Its original tunnels showcase massive mining machines, the challenges miners faced underground, and an industrial ambience found nowhere else. The mine also features the underground “Karlik” mining train, one of the site’s most popular attractions. Together, these sites create a unique complex that blends education, history, and adventure—making it one of the most remarkable tourist destinations in the Silesian region.
