The Jardí Botànic de Sóller began in 1985 and was opened to the public in 1992 as a centre for conservation, research and learning about Mediterranean flora, especially the flora of the Balearic Islands.In April 1997 it became a foundation, whose patrons are the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Council of Mallorca, the Town Council of Sóller, the University of the Balearic Islands, the Caja de Baleares "SA NOSTRA", the Ibero-Macaronesian Association of Botanical Gardens and the Association of the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences.
