Maximising Impact Seminar: The role of the European Youth Card in developing urban policies and youth-friendly cities

The role of the European Youth Card in developing urban policies and youth-friendly cities – a seminar dedicated to EYCA member organisations

On 3 and 4 of March 2020, the European Youth Card Association organised the seminar The role of European Youth Card in developing urban policies and youth-friendly cities dedicated to its member organisations and partners at European and local level. The event brought together 34 representatives of youth card organisation across Europe: from regional or national Governments to youth-led organisation, youth workers, as well as representatives of municipalities and other European networks.

The seminar aimed to:

  • Offer a space for dialogue and share of good practices among EYCA member organisations with a focus on municipal youth cards;
  • Offer a space for networking with other key stakeholders in urban planning and European cities & regions associations;
  • Increase EYCA members’ role as a dialogue partner in local youth policies.

Across the network, the European Youth Card services are developed in partnership with municipalities, giving young people access to a variety of local opportunities and benefits. From addressing issues such as youth participation in their communities to offering them free public transport or access to cultural institutions, the European Youth Card is being used as a tool for local youth policies.

The seminar presented an excellent opportunity for members to exchange ideas and best practices and to listen to the perspective of municipalities, thus re-adjusting their advocacy strategies.

¨The Maximising Impact seminar is a yearly event open exclusively to our member organisations aiming to strengthen their capacity and improve services we offer to young people across Europe. Every year we address a different topic. The number of partnerships with municipalities is growing across the EYCA network since many local authorities are looking for innovative ways to reach out to young people. We wanted to offer a space for sharing knowledge and ideas¨ says Manel Sanchez, EYCA Director.
