Going old-school – sending postcards to MEPs

Interacting with policy-makers can take many forms. But sometimes it can be as simple as sending a postcard!

In the run-up to the European elections, we asked young voters to put pen to paper and write down their burning thoughts to would-be elected MEPs. Questions, comments and suggestions - everything was acceptable. The ambition is for MEPs to take these messages on board for their mandate.

This action was combined with informal events taking place as part of our MoreIn24 campaign. Overall, around 500 postcards were collected from different countries, including Belgium, Greece, Spain and Slovenia. It’s a simple way of getting young citizens to think about European policies and allowing them to get in touch with officials in Brussels. Some young senders were also thrilled to receive a response by email from the MEP, as a follow-up to their postcard.

A competition called for young voters to submit postcard designs that would best reflect ‘a celebration of what it means to be young in the EU’. In this way, we also shared the voices of art-focused young people and matched their amazing visual skills with campaigning - which is particularly powerful and should be encouraged further.

Stay tuned for edition number two coming in 2025.
